William M. Shy was born on May 24, 1838 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. He was one of 10 children. He died in the Civil War battle for Nashville, Tennessee on December 16, 1864.
William Shy was popular with fellow soldiers. He was calm and focused in battles. He was a leader. William Shy died at the age of 26 and he was not married. His mother and father had to come and get his body.
William Shy demonstrated characteristics of a hero by being a strong, honest, trustworthy young man. He fought for what he believed was right. He demonstrated great leadership skills.
