My hero is Thomas Jefferson. His family was very wealthy. He grew up to be one of the five men to write the Declaration of Independence. Actually he was the one who wrote it because John Adams said he didn't want to because Thomas wrote ten times better than he did and everyone liked Tom more than John. We would still be thirteen colonies without the Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 in Shadwell, central Virginia. Some of his hobbies were reading and playing his violin. He ended up with six sisters and three brothers. He was taught at home. His teacher was his father Peter Jefferson. When he was thirteen he was a tall boy with freckles, he was also called Tall Tom. The next year when he was fourteen his father died.
When he was seventeen Thomas went to college to study law. Later he came back to Virginia and became a lawyer. Then he fell in love with Martha Wayles Skelton in 1770. Two years later they got married. Then he designed his own house. It was a thirty-five roomed mansion named Monticello.
Being the secretary of the state for four years, being vice president, and being president for two terms isn't easy. Thomas Jefferson was able to do all of these things because he was brave and honest. Because of Benjamin Franklin he became the minister of France. He designed the University of Virginia because he was an architect.
I think Thomas Jefferson was a hero because he was brave to write and take the blame for the Declaration of Independence. He was a patriotic writer because if he wasn't, we wouldn't have the Declaration of Independence so we would still be part of Britain.
