Sergey Solnechnikov

My hero is Sergei Alexandrovich Solnechnikov. He was a Russian military man. He saved his subordinates at the cost of his life.

Sergei served in the Russian Army. He commanded a signal battalion. His rank was a major. Solnechnikov was 31 when he performed his heroic deed.

It happened in March 2012 at a military base near the town of Belogorsk during field training. One of the soldiers threw a grenade. It bounced back into the trench. There were dozens of soldiers standing nearby. Major Solnechnikov pushed the soldier away and threw himself on the grenade.

Sergei was taken to the hospital. But he died two hours later.

He was awarded with the title of Hero of Russia.
