My hero is Randall Arauz because of his actions saving sharks. He is trying to save sharks from the people. The people want the fins from the sharks for famous shark fin soup. Randall is 24 to his 40’s and still is active then ever. Randall Arauz will always be my hero. He is the best for saving sharks.

Randall won the Goldman Prize for helping sharks and turtles. Randall convinced the government to stop the killing of sharks for their fins. The government of Costa Rica then passed a law that it was illegal to kill sharks for just their fins. Now in Costa Rica if you catch a shark, the fins have to stay attached.

He perseveres through this fight. His friend said that he doesn’t break easily. He will continue to fight until they are stopped. Now he is speaking with the United Nations to try to get them to pass the same law for all countries that Costa Rica has passed.

If you are caught cutting the fins off a shark and throwing it back in the water you will be arrested. But you can fish for them as long you use the whole fish.

For these reasons Randall Arauz is my hero. Sharks are safer because of him.
