Oscar Wilde

Love is more precious and beautiful than the finest jewels.

Oscar Wilde

Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde was born on 16 October 1854 in Ireland. Before two years ago I did not know about him. But one day, my father bought a book for me named 'The Canterville Ghost and other stories'. When I read the introduction of the book, I thought that I am going to get bored by reading this book because I was only 13 years old at that time and I used to read about fairies and dolls. I was not a mature girl. I was a dreamer who used to dream about a world having love everywhere. The words like evil, devil, monsters, poverty and discrimination were very strange words for me. I still remember the day when some senior students of my school asked me to give them my lunch and I gave them my lunch and went home hungry. My mother asked me why I was hungry so I said my friends ate my lunch and I told everything to my mother. She understood the situation and told me that those guys are bullies but I was very kind and childish. I answered my mother that no they are not, they were just hungry. So that was the situation with me. But that thing was harmful for me because I was very generous or I should say a fool who could be tricked by anyone. We should not always show sympathy, in some situations we should use cleverness. If someone is not clever, the people in this world would never allow him to live in this world.

Oscar Wilde did change me. By reading his books I understood that there is evil in this world and all people are not good, they could harm you. They could use you. For example in the story 'The Nightingale and the Rose', Oscar Wilde wrote about money, and mean people. The Nightingale paid death a great price for a red rose, for someone's love, but what that girl did was she refused to dance with the boy and with his heavy broken heart, the boy returned to his studies. That story shows the reality. People in this world do not always value love, kindness, sympathy etc. They often use each other for their own purposes.

Oscar Wilde not only proved that love is not valued but he also told people that love is beautiful and they should love each other because love could destroy hatred and the evil. Like in his story 'The Star Child' he tried to write that pride could turn our beautiful souls into ugliness. So we should not feel pride and we should behave nicely.

In his story 'The Happy Prince' he tried to tell the world that in our life after death we would get sympathy by God if we would love others and that love is beautiful. The endings of his stories are very different - some are happy and some are sad. He ended his few stories sadly and told people that we should not use each other; instead of that we should love each other because a person who has a good heart and loves others could live happily.

By reading stories and other scripts written by Oscar Wilde, I came to know more realistically what a human actually is and how to live our lives. He died in 13 November 1900 but people are still reading his stories and knowing about love and other aspects of human life.
