Ms. Lin

by Sandra from PingTung City, Taiwan

I. Introduction
To me, a hero can influence others and teach them to have a better perception and more confidence. Ms. Lin is the kind of person. Ms. Lin, Kuang-Hua elementary school’s teacher, lets her students and kids feel warm and safe. Her daughter and I are classmates. Though she didn’t teach me, she took good care of me in my elementary school’s time. I consider her a good teacher because she always gives her students a lot of encouragement, and lets them consider themselves meaningful.

II. Philosophy of Education
Ms. Lin treats her students as her own children. The most important thing of all is she doesn’t reject any kinds of students, and the kids who need special education included. Ms. Lin uses her patience to take care of her students when others don’t accept them instead of spoiling them. She teaches them to be the people who follow the rules and have good manners. She believes that all the students are unique, so she never stops them from doing anything that can spotlight their difference from others.

III. Practice of Education
Teaching in an elementary school, Ms. Lin thinks that she has the duty to teach students how to solve their own problems, to be independent and use a positive attitude to face their future life. She has been a teacher for so many years, she thinks the things to give students aren’t different from the past, but because the ideas in this society are changing, she has to work with parents and students to reach a balance point. As for the students who need more concern, she considers that their right of being taught shouldn’t be abridged, and the teachers should do their best to teach them not to be so different from other kids, and if the special students are put in a normal class, it will be a chance for both of the general students and the special ones to grow, as the result. Even though the students may bring her a lot of unthinkable problems, she accepts them and tries to make them better. For example: There is a problem student from a poor family in her class, the student’s mother is busy working, so she can’t take care of her child. The student never writes homework and acts bad to others, but Ms. Lin teaches him patiently and tells the other students in her class to tolerate him. Now, the problem student does homework though the quantity is still less than others’.

IV. Views on Education Problems
Ms. Lin thinks that all the news about the arguments between teachers, students and parents on newspapers and TVs are because they are in lack of communication and most of the parents overprotect their “own” child. They don’t even let them do too many things, so the children now can’t solve problems by themselves and are very impolite to the elders. She thinks that if the three can communicate with each other first and reach an agreement, there won’t be so many problems.

V. Family Education
This great school teacher also has two children at home. She gives her kids an idea that you don’t need to be the best but do your best on whatever you are doing, and she also breaks the illusion in my mind that all the teachers make their children study hard and have good grades; she lets her children do what they want to do if it is good for them and a meaningful thing. She is also a good mother in many people’s minds; she makes her relationship with her children like friends but not parent and kids. As a result, her children never hide a secret in their minds. Instead, they always share their difficulties and worries with her.

VI. Conclusion
Though Ms. Lin is not somebody famous, her efforts in teaching touch me, and I think many of the students taught by her will appreciate her when they get older. A great person doesn’t need to be accepted by all people, but can’t disobey his or her own beliefs; no matter how hard it is, just do it! Ms. Lin── my hero, is the kind of person.
