Misty May-Treanor

by Hailey from Mission Viejo, California

"It takes a lot of hard work and dedication just like any pro sport. Especially for beach volleyball you don’t have to be tall or as fast as other sports. You just have to have the skills."

Misty May is a professional volleyball player, who has been to 3 Olympics. She went to Long Beach State. She trains almost all year round. She has competed in many AVP tournaments, and the Olympics and has been very successful in them all.

When she first played volleyball, she fell in love with it. She enjoyed playing beach volleyball more, and played in college, where she won co-MVP of America, and played in different countries to hope to continue to go far in the sport. She was discovered in many countries, and once she was in the united States, she became a professional volleyball player, and she went to the Olympics 3 times. Winning the gold twice. She also participated in the AVP tournaments held throughout the year, and she and Kerri Walsh, her beach volleyball partner, have been very successful throughout the years.

When I first found out about Misty May, it was when she went to the Olympics in 2004. Then I watched her on TV when she and her Beach Volleyball Partner, Kerri Walsh were playing. Now they are, by far, my favorite players and are role models to many.

When she takes time off, she often assistant coaches at schools that she went to when she was younger. She has won the gold for the United States more than once, and she continues to WOW people with all that she has done for herself. She and Kerri Walsh have done amazing things for the US. We won the most medals in the US for the 2008 Olympics, and they out for the their effort to us that far. It might not mean much to most people, but it does to me.

I will continue to work hard at all practices, get on a good club team, and hopefully make the volleyball team the rest of my years in high school. And if I choose a path that gives me a scholarship to play volleyball, then I will use that chance to go as far I as I can, all for the love of the sport. My lifetime goal does not have to include volleyball necessarily, but it does need to include me being successful in life, and in everything that I do. Just like her.
