Martin Luther King, Jr.

by Daisy from Kampala

Martin was a black American Baptist pastor born on January 15/1929 in Atlanta [U.S.A]. He played an important role in fighting racial discrimination by whites against the blacks in public schools, transportation, hotels and so much more.

He also used non violent means of fighting for people's freedom like boycotting and demonstrations. He was arrested many times by the police. He was hurt during a demonstration and his home was bombed but he never gave up even after all his sufferings.

Later his goal was accomplished when the Congress passed the Civil Rights Act in 1964 refusing racial discrimination in public places or overall as a country(USA), saying whites and blacks should equally be employed and educated.

He's remembered for having brought about the end of segregation or racial discrimination of the blacks by the whites in  American history.

King Jr was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1964 for fighting racial discrimination and was later killed at the age of 39 on April 4/1968 by a sniper, who pleaded guilty, although King's death remains a mystery to many.
