Miep Gies

My Hero is Miep Gies. She hid and saved Anne Frank and her family. Anne Frank was Jewish and in 1942 the Nazis were sending them to labor camps and killing them. The camps were called “Death Camps”. It was illegal to hide the Franks but Miep Gies did it anyway. The Franks were hiding for two years before the Nazi police found and arrested them.

After they arrested the Franks, Miep Gies tried to her hardest to bribe them with money, but the police disagreed. Then the Nazis told her not to go back to the hiding place, but she went anyway. She noticed that the Nazis didn’t take Anne Frank’s diary, so she picked it up and put it in her drawer. She hoped that when Anne came back she could give it to her, but Anne Frank’s father came back and told her the rest of the family had died. Miep Gies gave the diary to him.

She is my hero because she tried to save people and she tried to bribe the Nazis for the Frank’s freedom. She was scared but she did this anyway. She was brave. In my mind I believe she was a lifesaver.

Miep Gies died when she was 100 years old on January 11, 2010.
