Mahatma Gandhi is my hero because he was brave, made the world a better place, and he was a great leader. Mahatma Gandhi was born October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India near Mumbai. His wife's name was Kasturba Gandhi and they had four sons. His father was the Prime Minister of several small native states. Gandhi was assassinated January 30, 1948. Some interesting facts about Mahatma Gandhi is that his full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His name was changed to Mahatma because it means great soul and he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize five times. These are some interesting facts about Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi is my hero because he is brave. He is brave because he fought for independence in India and never gave up. He believed in non-violence and peaceful protests to promote change. When the British government was trying to rule India by violence, Gandhi used non-violent resistance to organize and protest the unfair treatment of the Indian people. He fasted to prove his commitment to changing India. In 1930 Gandhi walked 241 miles in a non-violent protest of the unfair British taxation of salt. This march took 23 days and gained worldwide attention. Gandhi was arrested because of this protest. He continued to fight for India's independence from Great Britain. In 1947, his battle was won. Independence for India was achieved. To me, this is why Mahatma Gandhi is brave.

Mahatma Gandhi is my hero because he made the world a better place. He influenced Martin Luther King Jr who led the American Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr used Gandhi's methods of non-violent resistance to gain civil rights for African Americans. Also, Nelson Mandela was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy. Nelson Mandela led the Civil Rights movement in South Africa against apartheid. When Gandhi was in South Africa, he formed the Natal Indian Congress. This Congress worked on British discrimination of Indians living in South Africa. Gandhi's big success in gaining independence for India made him admired throughout India and the world. Since his assassination, he still continued to make a global impact on the world. To me, Mahatma Gandhi's influence on other great leaders made the world a better place.

Mahatma Gandhi is my hero because he was a great leader. Mahatma Gandhi was a great leader because he never gave up in believing that change could be made through peaceful methods. When Mahatma Gandhi went to South Africa, he learned leadership skills he needed to peacefully guide India's Independence. Mahatma Gandhi went to South Africa because he was fighting for rights for Indians who lived there. He peacefully helped farmers get fair pay for their crops. Gandhi believed he could peacefully change unfair laws. He helped factory workers get paid more because they didn't get enough money. He was a great political and spiritual leader for many people. Gandhi also wrote newspaper articles protesting discrimination against people of color. He was a great Civil Rights leader and he demanded equal treatment for all under the law. Mahatma Gandhi's peaceful methods for change is why he was a great leader.

Mahatma Gandhi is my hero for many different reasons. He was the bravest person I know. He was a great leader who used non-violence to fight for India's independence. He made the world a better place and never gave up in his beliefs. Non-violence helped him through the bad times as he persevered with his goals. Mahatma Gandhi said, " We must be the change we wish to see." He changed people's lives, even mine. He changed my life because my family is from India. If Gandhi didn't win Independence from Great Britain, my family would still be ruled by Great Britain. India would not be a free country without Gandhi's work. Mahatma Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." This is why Mahatma Gandhi is a hero to me and he will always remain a hero to me.
