Megan Brown

by Lorayna from Ontario

Darkness doesn't drive out darkness, only light can. Hate never solves hate. Only love can. Be the love and the light.

I watched as my father's fist struck my brother's face; my life felt horrible. It was two years later and I was still struggling with the emotions from that day.  Then she came along, and she helped me through ups and downs, and she helped me find my way. Megan Brown is my hero. Megan Brown is age 27 and she is Caucasian. When I heard that Megan was Caucasian, I thought to myself that she was not going to understand me. I worried that Megan and I were so different, she wouldn't relate to me and then I wouldn't get my problems fixed, but then I realized I was wrong . Now I know that our races didn't matter.

Megan used to live in Syracuse, New York. It was hard for her coming to California. She had to leave a lot of people. Can you believe it took her 10 days to get here in a car? She had to change her whole life style. She didn't know anyone.

Megan inspires me to fulfill my dreams as a painter, singer, dancer, and a better person. She also inspires me because she has so much faith in God, and she loves helping children. It wouldn't be hard for Megan to inspire people because she is respected by so many people, and she tells us to keep our heads up. When Mrs. Brown went to college she got a degree in youth ministry. After she graduated, she took a job in Los Angeles doing youth work helping kids. She liked the kids that needed help because she had so much in common with them. Megan had a lot in common with these children because she had many troubled times in her life.

When I first met Mrs. Brown I knew that she would help me get through my problems. She was so nice, yet she was a very professional person. She came to Sultana and became a counselor. I felt like she was my sister because she helped me through all my problems that were going on at home and at school. Mrs. Brown led me to believe in myself. She has a very special place in my heart. She is a counselor and I am a student; most people know her as Mrs. Brown, but I know her as a peacemaker and part of me.
