Babe Ruth

The qualities I believe should be in a hero are they should have courage (strength of mind), bravery (undaunted spirit), and benevolence (ability to be able to express love and affection for others).

The hero in my life is Babe Ruth. Yes, he is dead now, but I think he is still a big inspiration to me. Some people say he was just the avarage ball player pitching, hitting, and running but I think he was much more. To me I think he is the best baseball player in the world. I read books on his history and life, such as where he grew up, where his career took off, strategies he used when playing the game, the teams he played on and coaches he played with. They were probably the most interesting books I have ever read.

Last year in 2010 I had karate testing. I have been in karate for 5 years and I just made brown belt. The testing required 8 months of preparation. I had to write a three page paper over the summer, teach my own class, and take a written test. It was a lot! The whole way I felt that there was that one spirit guiding me the whole way. I knew Babe Ruth was right there with me. It was hard to do, but I had to remember even in his life he had his ups and downs so I knew he went through the same thing. I quizzed myself on everything I needed to know to make sure I was at the top of my knowledge. Then when the final day of testing came I felt that I hit the ground running. I knew almost every answer to every question and then the promotions came. I felt like my heart was about to burst out of my chest, but I knew I had to calm down and, sure enough, I was called up and I was given my belt. All of it was over!

Now back to where it all started, the ball field. I am a pitcher like Babe Ruth and it is what I do the best. My parents send me to clinics and camps to help me improve my skill and it helps a lot. Sadly Babe did not get any of that, yet he turned out to be the best baseball player of all time. He lived on the streets and he and his family were very poor. Of all the things I have said about Babe Ruth, what I most want to say about him is that he played with his heart and never gave up on his dream.
