Barbara Johns

My hero is Barbara Johns. My hero is special because even though she was a teenager she fought for Civil Rights. She was an activist. An activist takes action and supports one side of an issue. Her school had 450 kids in the building, but it was only supposed to have 200 and their books were ripped and old. The new school for the white kids had good books and wasn't crowded. She didn't like that her books were ripped and old and that the new school was better. It wasn't fair. She organized a walk out at Moton High School. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) helped her and the other students.

She is my hero because she helped people. She had to be brave. If she didn’t do what she did, I might not be in a school with so many different types of kids.
