Alvin C. York

Alvin C. York, Tennessee Hero

Alvin C. York was born Dec. 13, 1887 in Pall Mall, TN. As a child he only made it to third grade and they only had 2-3 weeks of school. He was a blacksmith and during World War I he was drafted into the army and sent to the war in Europe. He fought during the Meuse-Argonne battle and captured a handful of German prisoners. He also fought in other battles and captured or killed many Germans. He saved many army soldiers and received the Medal of Honor. Alvin York died Sept. 2, 1964 in Nashville, Tennessee

Alvin York demonstrated hero characteristics by doing what he was expected to do as a soldier. He never gave up and he helped save other soldiers. He was a quiet peaceful man who did what he had to do for his country.
