Jeanne Lewis from Scottsdale, Arizona, USAThomas J. Pappas School is a school for homeless children. My third grade class wanted to help New York, so they made American flags when there were none for sale after the bombing. They accepted contributions and they have made $1900 dollars and they want to send it to New York. Other classes joined in and the school responded to help. A service station and a radio station got the word out and people had a sight to come to to purchase the flags made of construction paper. The children are now planning a news media meeting so they can give their money to the effort.

Aitor from SpainWe all are shocked by the atrocious actions that happened last tuesday and we want to let you know that we are with you. Now what I really hope although it seems quite improbable is that these acts of terrorism provoked by religious fanaticism (although we don't know who did it) will not have as response a massive military attack where once more thousands of innocent civilians will die. If that happens that also would be an act of terrorism but this time provoked by patriotic fanaticism. There are ways of doing things the good way, without hurting people but it seems it is not interesting or worth it for the different powers that rule this little world of us. Stanley Kubrick showed us in 2001 A Space Odyssey, we have evolved from living in caves to being able to fly into space, but we have not evolved at all in our relationships as human beings. Gandhi said: "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, and the world will end blind" (I don't know if this translation is O.K.).

Juliet Reyes from Brooklyn, New YorkMy hero is Julia Estrada. When we were in school the day the World Trade Center collapsed she helped me overcome my fear. She was very worried about her ex-boyfriend who worked in the WTC, but she helped me even though she was very worried. she supported me when I thought my dad was dead and I thank her very much for that. Julia is now my best friend in the world and I love her. |

Ron Kovic, Redondo Beach, California U.S.A.Dear Friends, My heart and soul weeps with everyone in America right now. I was deeply saddened by the terrible tragedy that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001. I didn't sleep much again last night, as it's been for me, and I'm sure so many others since Tuesday. I wonder if we will ever sleep, "normally" again? I have thought about it a lot and I am deeply disheartened by the blind patriotism, hatred and desire for revenge that I see growing more and more in this country each day. Resorting to violence and warfare is a great mistake. The painful anguish resulting from this senseless act of violence stirs in all of us, a desire for swift retribution. I strongly believe that to move in this direction will lead us into a terrible and disastrous war which we as a people and a nation, may never recover from. It is a dark and dangerous time in America, and I, in good conscience, will never support such an act of madness! We seem to have learned nothing from Vietnam, and those of us, who have come to understand through great suffering, the awful waste and deep immorality of war, are not being listened to. Those of us who have found that love and forgiveness are more powerful than hatred are not being heard. We remain invisible, isolated and alone, voices in the wilderness in a country that has truly gone mad. I encourage all of you, to raise your voices on behalf of peace and non-violence everywhere. I love this country so much that I don't want to see it go through the senselessness and agony of war ever again. With love and a sincere hope for peace! Ron Kovic

Jerrilyn, California USADear Mr. President, There is an alternative to war. Collect the money from around the world that is anticipated to go to war and give it to the poor countries on Earth, for schools, hospitals, infrastructures, and projects which could pull the disenfranchised out of abject poverty and give them hope. Be a visionary leader and pull together a consortium of world leaders who take World Welfare as their cause. Recognize that revenge only breeds further revenge. Believe that we can become One World, sharing wealth and resources. In addition to encouraging people to fly the American flag, design a World flag. Astronomers already have a symbol for the Earth, a circle with a vertical X inside. Let's fly this flag for global unity, with the motto "One World." Heal, don't destory, the world
Russ JonesDear Music Makers, I can't begin to articulate my feelings since the mayhem in NY and Washington DC, neither can I fathom how this event may have affected you and all the others who are somehow connected because we share the thread of freedom. We are free to think, create, believe and speak whatever we want as long as we do not inflict these ideals upon others in a physically intrusive, hurtful or damaging manner. What these terrorists did was so very, very wrong, the reality of which can only be truly felt by the people of NY and Washington DC who must now clean up, rebuild and go forward. Those of us not at ground zero (and I really speak for myself here) know what happened, saw the images, yet somehow are detached because our personal surroundings are unchanged. But, I simply don't feel whole, I sense a void in my chest and a strange sort of fuzzy preoccupation surounding my brain, 'anxiety' may be a window to describe this condition but barely scratches the surface. The TV images are like a movie, but I know it's not a movie, it's real, it did happen and it's so very hard to believe. How will the world powers and a 'higher power' deal with them, the terrorists, and those that endorsed them? We don't, as yet, really know. Trust in your own personal faith, pray if you will, and then leave the task to our leaders and don't fall prey in judging your fellow Americans. We are Americans because we are from every corner of the world and of every faith and ethnicity and share the thread of freedom; this is what makes us strong and resilient. It's time to unite and stay united. Reach out and let people know you care especially those that were directly affected by this event. I'm sure of only one thing, the vast majority of people everywhere are good and good will prevail. Solemnly and with faith,
Russ Jones | |||

He will never leave us and everyone must know that especially at a time like this. Terrorism is a horrible thing. It starts wars and makes us mad and angry at others. Mark Cavanagh from Providence, Rhode Island, USAMy heroes are those who seek healing. When we wound another, we are injured in the process. The wounds are linked and may not heal until both are dealt with. We must remember this if we seek peace. Human justice is incomplete. Love is the only way to lasting peace. Does that mean we do not defend ourselves? No, but we must consider how the sword turns upon the one who weilds it. We must put on the mind of God for the cycle of violence to end. |
