Maire Loise (Marlies) Mirwaldt

by Marli from Winnipeg

Sculpture of my Oma (I made this sculpture)
Sculpture of my Oma (I made this sculpture)

My hero is my oma. The reason she is my hero is because she has always been here for me. She was born on January 22nd 1930 in Germany and died died on October 30th 2008. She had 8 children, 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren including myself. She may have passed away but she will always be alive in our hearts.

Some of my most cherished memories are from Christmas. Every year Christmas Eve would be at her house and all 3 Marlies would be there, which are my oma, my aunt and me. When I was a younger, Santa would come. One of my uncles would always be missing and my oma would say he was bad so Santa gave him his coal outside.

She is my hero, my oma, and she would be proud if she saw this. I miss her but so does my family. She will never be forgotten. She may be gone but she will always be here in our hearts.
