Little Turtle

by Dulcie from Westerville

Little Turtle was born 20 miles away from northeast Indiana, in a village along the Eel River in 1752.

Little Turtle's father was a Miami chief, and his mother was a Mohican. Little Turtle also had a son in law named William Wells, who was a white captive.

Little Turtle has made many accomplishments. Probably his best accomplishment was when he went out with small troops, and defeated the white settlements.

Little Turtle's son in law “William Wells”, led small troops, and captured St. Clair’s artillery positions. And in 1790 William Wells, and Little Turtle defeated St. Clair twice.

In 1700 Little Turtle had very little military support. In 1790 Little Turtle became the chief military leader of Miami, he also became one of the most successful woodland military commanders.

I think Little Turtle's role model was president George Washington because he was helpful to them by defending Little Turtle's tribe, and he saved almost everyone from the attack and he did the right thing.

Little Turtle is famous because he signed the treaty of Greenville just to keep his tribe safe, and he was one of the last people to sign it. He is also famous because he thinks of his tribe before himself.

One of Little Turtle’s major accomplishments was when he kept on fighting for the settler's lands against the British, and when he defeated General St. Harmar.

While Little Turtle was fighting, this is what was happening in the USA. Benjamin Franklin was testing kite experiments, and Betsy Ross was born, and she was the 1st one to sew a flag. She also made the last American flag.

I think Little Turtle's hero is William Wells because he helped a lot of Little Turtle's people from getting hurt when he took out the artillery positions.

Little Turtle's last battle was against General Wilkinson, and after the battle Little Turtle learned how to farm instead because he didn't want any more people to get hurt.

Little Turtle is considered a hero because he fought in every war and he never gave up, he is a hero because he puts his tribe in front of him before himself, and he did the right thing for everyone.
