The mission of MY HERO is to use media and technology to celebrate the best of humanity and to empower people of all ages to realize their own potential to effect positive change in the world.
On August 28, 1995 a group of moms launched myhero.com. Their idea was simple; to create a virtual space where people of all ages could share and discover stories about real life heroes from around the globe. They built this not-for-profit on-line resource hoping to inspire young and old alike to believe in their own ability to create positive change in the world. Since then, millions have taken part in this global storytelling project. Great scholars, writers, artists and filmmakers have contributed work to this ever-growing Internet archive. Visitors of all ages are invited to add their hero story to this global learning online community.
MY HERO has templates and tutorials to help vistors build MY HERO web pages. The MY HERO Gallery hosts orginal Hero Themed art and The MY HERO media arts portal provides examples of winning short films and lesson plans to help new filmmakers create inspiring short films that honor heroes from all walks of life.
Support from a few donors has helped MY HERO serve a growing population on-line and in schools throughout the world.
Teachers in over 194 countries use MY HERO’s resources to promote cross-cultural understanding and character education in classrooms worldwide.
Advances in media and Internet technology provide new opportunities to bring MY HERO’s resources to students in remote regions and underserved parts of the planet. We need funds to bridge the digital divide and provide media tools and a safe venue for students to share their hero stories on the information super highway. With your support, The MY HERO team can continue to improve our programs while remaining a child-friendly, commercial-free, global learning portal... Together we can provide educators and students a new home for heroes that can continue to grow for decades to come.
We value your participation and support.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Meyers
