FATHERS FROM OUR GUESTBOOK
Here's a compilation
of entries from our guestbook. Many visitors to our guestbook have named
their own fathers as heroes.
Denise West from Baltimore, MD USA
My hero is my Father. He enlisted for WWII at the age of 17 into the tank corps. When my father returned from the war with a purple heart and a bronze star, he married and began to raise a family. He worked hard for us and gave us the best life he could, sometimes working 2 or 3 jobs when my sister was young. He passed along a legacy of quiet patriotism, unfailing loyalty, and the importance of family.
Olivia from California
My dad is the most gracious, loving person I ever met. In a couple of years I think he could be the smartest man in the world, or at least one of them. He helps me and teaches me right from wrong. He's very funny. He works every day but he spends time with me and my brother and sister everynight. He also helps anybody who needs help. Maybe it doesn't seem like it, but he's a hero to me.
Jody Newell from Emmett, Idaho
My Father, Emmett L. Newell is my hero.
My hero's have always been cowboys!
And my father was one. He was raised on the back of a horse in Ola,
Eyedeehoe (Id.) spent his 21st birthday in POW camp in Japan. When he got
home he began his well planned goal of continuing the Good Life. Raising
cows, riding the range and the stock cars. By the time I got to know him he
was a 40 year old man and a pure joy to be around. He allowed me to cut my
own path as a youngster, he continued his unstructured lessons as I turned
young adult. I guess four years in prison camp had taught him to appreciate
and enjoy life each day, the fresh air, the taste of homemade ice cream,
the smell of baking bread, the sound of rain on a tin roof. He was one
of those rare people who are truly generous of heart and nature. Passing
along his knowledge the best way he knew how, usually unbeknownst to you.
When I was fourteen I wrote this poem for
him on Father's Day, ten years ago we printed it again for his eulogy.
I hear a man who teaches without words
and the sound of the absent words
help me find the way.
I feel a man who touches without hands
and I've learned that love is always there.
I've walked by a man who loves without chains
and I know that love is honesty and letting go.
I see a man who accepts without question
and I've learned that love does not stop
when dreams are not the same.
December 9th, 1996 brings his 77th birthday; January 27, 1997 brings with it the tenth year since his death. An Accident, an Act of God, one day I
hope to speak with him again, I don't
think the question will be very important then.
What is important is that he know how much he
has meant, and continues to mean, to me and so many others.
What I am hoping is that someone out there knows his email
address....@heavensdoor....please send to: Emmett L. Newell
Dad, I love you.......
Andrew C. Alex from Oakland, CA
My dad is my hero. He is so cool. My dad is honest, true, decent, and pure.
He is these things because he never lies or does something bad. My dad will
help me with work or subjects I need help with. My dad is the greatest dad
in the whole world. I love my dad.
Michael Puppi from Narragansett, RI
My Dad is my hero.... My dad, Leon, is a lung doctor who saves people's
lives who have problems with their lungs and hearts. My dad is a fabulous
who never gives up. All the nurses and doctors admire him because he is a very good doctor. Also, he is a very smart hero because when I am sick he knows what medicine to give me. That is something I can count on. My dad is
my dad and I love him the way he is.
Dave Humphrey from Cooper City, FL USA
My father is my hero. He is a good decent man that sacrificed and worked
hard to take care of his family. i love him very much.
ALEXIS
My father is the best dad in the world. He gave me the gift of life,
and raised me as a very respectable person. Whenever I'm
having trouble with my homework or a very challenging assignment, my dad is
right there to help me and make my grades higher.
My dad taught me how to tie my shoes and ride my bike
without training wheels. I would be nowhere without my father.
I love him very much. He is the best human being in the universe.
Manuel Castillo from Roseville, CA USA
My hero is my dad. I think a hero is someone that you respect and is always
there for you in good times and also bad times. My hero is my dad because
he does a lot for me. Even when I get mad at him he still does things for
me. My dad risked his life for me lots of times and saved my life and
always took care of me when I had cuts or I was sick. That's why I think my
dad's my hero. When my dad reads this I want him to know that I love him. I
think that there should be more heroes like that.
Mahlia Hines from Laguna Beach, CA
My hero is my father, Michael Hines. His best accomplishment aside from
being a marvelous and wonderful father, is that he voyaged across the
dangerous, but beautiful Pacific Ocean. He sailed from Dana Point, Ca. to
the Hawaiian Islands in his 39 ft. sailboat "Cybele"! Two hero qualities which I admire most about my Father are his bravery and courage. Also he will help anyone when they are in need. He's very strong in heart.. I think he is a wonderful and loving man . I LOVE
HIM ! I think we need heroes in our world because then people would not be
able to respect and admire others. I hope we never have to experience a
world without heroes .
Caitlin Ezzell from Laguna Beach, CA
My hero is my dad because he is special to me. My dad is an artist, and an
athlete, he is very quick at sports. However, sometimes he loves to lay in
the hammock all day and just do nothing! He works very hard during the week
and spends lots of time with my brother and me. He will do any thing for
me. He cheers me up when I am sad. I love my dad!!!
