The Teacher's Room

This free, project-based learning resource has been successfully integrated into curricula in grades 3-12, colleges, and community-based education programs. Educators incorporate MY HERO in character education, journalism, thematic social studies and literature units, and use it as a tool for reading comprehension and the development of writing skills, graphic and creative arts, as well as computer and media literacy.

In 2005 educator Sara Armstrong, Ph.D., worked with MY HERO staff to renovate the teacher’s room. The new MY HERO Teacher’s Room provides lesson plans for all grade levels, as well as valuable resources and guides for teachers on how to use the interactive features of this interdisciplinary project. Over 3,000 teachers visit this area of the Web site each month.

An Educator Create Tool (e-Create) allows teachers to organize index pages of their students’ Web pages and to create unique directories of content on a variety of subjects and themes.

Teacher's Room Feedback

I have 105 new heroes in my life; each of my students who demonstrated the wonderful qualities they possess just by their choices of who their heroes are. Thank you MY HERO for helping us all to grow by encouraging us to think about each other. This project will be a yearly event in my classroom. -Lynn DiMatteo, Memorial Middle School, New Jersey

Your materials enrich my classes... (I made a promotion of your Web [site] among 37 schools and headmasters.) We had a very good experience in knowing the world with your help and support. Thanks a lot! - Vladimir Kalinin from Grodno, Belarus

This project really helps English teachers motivate [students] learning English. They enjoy learning English through this project. -Dedeh Suatini from West Java, Indonesia

MY HERO assisted students in developing their understanding(s) about the concept of a hero through reading stories of people they have never heard of before. This helped them to move away from the typical heroes that young people have due to media influences. - Linda Henderson from Victoria, Canada

This was a fabulous project which I look forward to working on again this year! - Marcy Stein from Montreal, Canada
