The Library is a valuable resource for teachers and parents. It provides an ever-expanding list of biographies and books about heroism to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate and advanced readers. Visitors can add their own reviews and search the list for books about their heroes. Margaret Dean, Library Director, highlights recommended reading tied to themes featured on the home page to assist students and teachers in their research. In 2006 the Library will focus on developing a collection of videos/DVDs about heroes and other multimedia resources to aid teachers and students in producing short films. The interactive Media Watch component of the Library will be enhanced to alert teachers and students of upcoming radio and TV programs about heroes.

MY HERO uses Associated Press stories for our Heroes in the News feature. Stories of technological and scientific advancements, community service, acts of kindness, heroism, philanthropy, and of people who have overcome great obstacles are included in the AP News Wires. This program gives teachers the opportunity to integrate journalism into their character education curriculum. Heroes in the News also provides an archive of current events with a positive slant for social studies classes, and links to proactive, not-for-profit charity organizations to direct young people to find ways that they, too, can make a positive difference. Claudia Herrera Hudson, a bilingual editor and writer with a Master’s degree in communications, manages the AP area of the Web site.
